thick toilet bleach works. use minimal effort and non-abrasive wipes, there is a professional product called armour etch but why over complicate things as it is not available everywhere.
your read instabilities are concerning though, without special hardware ( deepspar etc) it is going to struggle to image that drive. you can try using DDRescue (it's included in parted magic) to hopefully get past those instabilitites. windows hates any drive with bad sectors lol
try a software called Autopsy. it is usually for forensics but it's free and has a photo carving ingest module in it. best practice is to image your hard drive in its entirety and then load that image into autopsy.
