you are correct, it killed the component on the same drive twice, turns out it was a dented bottom cover, thats why i couldn't find the problem with the computer open. Remove the dent, replaced unknown component again and it is working well.
I do not unfortunately. This has me puzzled. i guess i need to invest in a scope. Do you have any idea what this component is or what it does, i have scoured the internet for a datasheet and haven't been able to find one.
bit of a backstory on this computer.
computer had light liquid on keyboard. Ordered and tested keyboard replacement, no liquid contact was found on board or drive.
computer comes back a couple of days later with blown component on ssd. Looked over board again, made sure that ssd was getting...
Did test without keyboard connected. Did reflow the smc after removing underfill. Did replace any corroded resistors i could find. Too much time invested into that board, sold customer a replacement board.
after pulling the connector i did find some mild corrosion on one of the pads. the computer did power up shorting the power pins. just killed the power button. this is solved thank you.
Does the same thing with smc bypass, however after it crashed i unplugged and plugged back in and am presented with an efi password for the first time, Is it possible i have a corrupt efi? The customer did provide the proper password and it does accept it however it still crashes the same.
This board did have liquid contact. Plenty of corrosion along the hinge edge of the board.
replaced q5480 and repaired a trace between. pin 4 and pin 1 of r5481
also repaired trace between r3896 and c3888
replaced f9700.
Not sure where to look.
Hoping it isn't an smc issue

i have replaced this customers keyboard 2 times,
there was liquid contact previously, but after cleaning, everything seemed in order.
all keys work, with the exception of the power button.
a test keyboard does work.

the computer fully boots, i do get display on the external display while the lcd is connected, backlight is on through the process no question mark, no login screen just black with distorted display through hdmi. so im guessing possibly bad lcd along with some other onboard issues.
5v on l8300 both sides with lcd connected. smc_lid 3.4v, backlight works, but no image. (apple logo lights up, and you can see lcd enable but is black not full white, or any other display.
the connector has been cleaned, no image on the internal lcd, and same distortion without any internal display connected. i have not plugged in any known good displays as the only known good retina display i have is my own daily driver macbook.
Backlight does come on, and there is 5v on L8300.
and just brushed my hand across heatsink while measuring l83300 and the cpu is extremely hot to the touch.
This computer had external contact with liquid on the thunderbolt jacks.
no visible contact on top or bottom of board, nothing looks crusty.
The computer does boot up, and chimes, does boot to os and has very distorted display, similar to what you would see with bad ram/cpu/graphics card...
