Got an 820-3437 that came in dead. Corrosion only around JTAG, so removed JTAG to get the fan to spin, but now it does not post (no light on the mouse). CPU vcore is 1.5v. The fan also immediately spins up, not on and off a few times first. It is also spinning at max RPM.
I had one that was bad screen assembly last week. Really did look like a GPU issue with lots of green lines running through, so don't forget to rule those out.
I know, I thought the same thing but I'm really not getting anything. It's possible that my multimeter is just too slow to pick it up, but I don't have an oscilloscope.
820-2915 seems to be power cycling. I get bursts of the S3 and S0 rails. SMC_PM_G2_EN and P3V3S5_EN cycles high-low. Can't find any shorts or heat on the board. PPVRTC_G3H also seems to be cycling, but between 3.3-3.4v only.
820-3115 no power, no PP3V3_S5.
Q7221 pin 2, 5 are 3.4v, which means the U7200 entrip will not enable the PP3V3_S5 regulator.
However, I cannot figure out for the life of me how U7941 drops P3V3S5_EN_L. Is it internal? So when SMC_PM_G2_EN is present on pin 2, then U7941 will set the output...
Pin 3 is ground. There is no way it shows 3.42v. I'm going to disregard that as a typo.
This is likely going to be a broken trace. Check the resistance from the trackpad to U5010 along SMC ONOFF L.
Another shop sent me an 820-4924 that they tried to flash the bios on but failed. The chip was missing so I pulled one off a donor board and put it in my TL866 to program with a new ME region. However, once I dumped it it looks like junk -- no serial number or "hwc" anywhere.
Does anybody have...
