External display worked but nothing on internal. Pin 43 and 1 of the display connector appeared burnt. I've resolved this a few times before with replacing u9850.
This time I replaced u9850 and tested with the display - nothing. Removed the connector and noticed further burning around 43 & 1 of...
Replacing a customers board with a board from my inventory. Board was working but customer wanted SN changed to match. I've done this multiple times without issue.
This time while using Medusa 3 tool I got an error. Tried re applying SN, "Fsys Block not found". Clean ME region - failed. (board...
Don't have schematic for battery board... Do you?
Any other options before good battery?
Anyone have a machine they can remove the battery on and run diag to see if they get the same results?
Very clean machine/ board that I received from a local shop I do repairs for.
Customer left untouched in their truck for a while and when they attempted to use again it was dead. Shop removed board and inspected. Apparently, when they reassembled it would now turn on but no battery detected...
Replaced u8900 - Fans high and running slow. Reset SMC - runs normal and sensors passed on the first loop of testing then failed on the second.
Replaced q5501, q5503 - Runs normal then same as above. First L/R fin stack failed then GPU Die followed.
SDA around u5550 and to test point by SMC...
Voltages back to bouncing around on pins 2,3,4,5. Replaced u5550 again, this time from a 3332. No change immediately, but after looking over the board and verifying traces between q5501, q5503 and u5550 the voltages on u5550 have leveled out and the board runs fine.
I don't think i'm solving...
Received 820-3332 as "running slow, fans high".
u8900 previously 'repaired' by Apple. I replaced with leaded still. All else looks great, no liquid, only some thermal paste residue.
Testing showed 8 related failed sensors - GPU proximity, GPU Die, Left/Right Fin stack. visually, u5550 area...
Yes. Swapped in two complete cases to be sure.
Noticed r5704 has 3.3v on pin 2 but only 2.8v on pin 1. On a known good board I’m getting 3.3v on both sides.
If all the caps after r5704 and before u5701 are good then does that point to u5701 or is something else known to pull PSOC down?
I can confirm that the thunderbolt port functions for data. Tried to get a Luna Display to connect but the dongle wasn’t even recognized.
Wasn’t aware there is a 2012 17”.
820-3332. No visible issues.
Internal keybord and trackpad not responsive and not recognized in system info - tested with 2 known good. External works.
SMC reset/ power button works (know this is different).
Can the older/smaller iSight cables be adapted to the newer/larger board connectors?
I have two cases where I’d like to see if this can be done. A 2014 MacBook Air 13” 820-3437 with a 2012 display. (Needs lengthened too). Also, a late 2013 MacBook Pro 15” with a 2012/e2013 display.
Tried to...
I was about to consider it done and call it an ASD issue because it seemed to operate normal..
However, I checked the U7200 area - everything measured normal but u7200 seemed off a bit. Replaced and it passes all diagnostics now.
Thanks for the help. We can mark this one solved.
Swapped all components from a like donor.
SPI area looks fine. Board wasn’t ever touched or even removed prior.
Will do PRAM once out of the ultrasonic.
I read on another post that on a retina the battery can affect the Plimit? Never seen this failure before and have run plenty even with no...
Board/ Mac appeared to have no liquid exposure or drop damage. Light, no power.
Found R7236 had some corrosion and C7374 was bad. Replaced these and R7237.
Powered on but failed the Processor TIM 0 and TIM extended tests. Appears to think the CPU temp is not appropriate?
Also, after looking...
I was thinking the same thing about the backlight and some kind of pre-fab piece that can be soldered on. The keyboard backlight doesn’t come on until the OS is loaded though. There is a "solution" from the same guy that recently did a write up on this mod. Requires hardware and software though...

Tested this out for fun - works well and can be done with just the diagram provided.
Took way too long. Would probably only do again if someone specifically requested.
