For $29/mo, we provide access to advanced level technicians who will answer your questions on any Macbook board related matter to the best of their knowledge promptly & walk you through how to solve your problem so you can deliver a working board to your customer.
Do you have any tips on buying a replacement chip? Are the ones on Ebay generally good? I also need to source a Wifi board connector - is there anywhere I can get that from?
Unfortunately not! The owner was given by someone who has access to lots of Macbook parts, the bits to put this together and it ended up in my hands without knowing the history. Oh well, at least I learnt a few things whilst working on it, and he let me have the board as a donor. Presumably...
PRAM reset not working (Alt+Win+P+R, also tried CTRL+WIN+P+R). Internal keyboard now working after connecting trackpad but also doesn't PRAM reset with COMMAND+ALT+P+R. I tried disconnecting keyboard and trackpad and still doesn't work with external keyboard. ALT on startup brings up BIOS...
Hm...the owner gave this to me saying that the problem was the fan never spinning. I'll find out tomorrow. Anyway, now it's question mark on 2 confirmed working hard drives. Also, the fan spins immediately when plugging in the AC but only if the battery is plugged in first.
As far as I...
- S5_PWRGD 3.73v
- PM_SLP_S4_L 0v
- PP5V_S5 5v
- PP3V3_S4 0v
- PP3V3_SUS 0v
I must add some information about this board that I didn't mention before and also some new info. It initially came in from a friend because the fan wasn't starting. Everything...
Thanks for the response Smiba. I've been away a few days so sorry for the delay. Resistance to ground on PP3V3_S4 starts at about 3 ohms and drops steady to about 1 ohm before dropping very slowly. I injected 3.3v and 2a. Yes I removed all caps in that area.
PP3V3_S5_REG is showing 3.3v at C7523 and C8030. I tried replacing U8030 to no avail. No shorts around U8030, all resistors are showing corrector values. I'm not sure where to look for the cause at this point. There are signs of water damage around the trackpad, but someone else has had a go at...
There is a short on PP3V3_S4 and when I put power into the circuit heat is coming from the area of C2953. I removed all the capacitors on that side of the board and the short is still there so I'm assuming it's coming from U2800 on the other side of the board.
Can anyone please give me any info...
Ok, what I'm finding now is that I have continuity between pins 1 and 2 of C7050, even on the pads when I lift the cap off. Remember, CHGR_CSO_N had a jumper going to C7050. Well, even with that jumper off and C7050 off I'm getting a short on the test points of CSO_N and CSO_P. What could be...
Aprendiz, no power whilst measuring resistance.
Duke, I did compare and then did the following based on that:
I'd already swapped out R7022 and R7021 before I saw your message, and then swapped out R7051. I got an orange light and it was charging for a couple of minutes then all of a sudden...
R7052 goes down slowly to about 1ohm, 1.6v
R7051 322ohm, 1.6v
R7022 38mohm, 16.8v
R7021 3.9kohm, 16.8v
R7050 0.6ohm, 1.6v
R7020 0.6ohm, 16.8v
The trace between C7050 and pin 17 has been destroyed and has a copper wire going to it now. All other traces seem fine
Getting 1.6v on CHGR_CSO_N, CHGR_BGATE, CHGR_CSO_P
0v on CHGR_BMON
0v on CHGR_AGATE
Replaced U7000 once and it burnt out and I lost the pad on CHGR_CSO_N so there is a now a jumper from that pin of U7000 to C7050.
